BorgWarner 369SXE with T3 .80ar Housing Dyno Test

369SXE Test 1 Run

In our latest test of the SXE series turbos, were doing the SXE369 with a T3, .80 divided housing. It’s a pretty small housing for this big turbo, and we want to see how much spool-up we can get out of this housing.

Like our previous turbo tests, we are going to run two tests. The first will be an unloaded run from 1,300 to 3,200rpm. The second will be a loaded run from 1,800 to 2,800rpm to test how long it takes this turbo to spool-up.

Test 1: Unloaded Run 1,300 to 3,200rpm

369SXE Test 1 Run

The results from the first run give us the following:

Peak Power: 630hp

Peak Torque: 1,315lbs

Run 1 gives us about 60hp over the SXE364 at about 2,500rpms. Peak torque was about the same as testing the previous turbos. This is logical as these are all wastegated housings, and they are all wastegating at the same psi. However, the 369 is holding the power a lot better than the other turbos.

Test 2: 5,000lb Loaded run 1,800 to 2,800rpm

The loaded run gives us the following power and torque results:

Peak Power: 625hp

Peak Torque: 1,372lbs

This run felt really laggy, like it was taking a long time to boost up compared to smaller SXE turbos. However, it picked up quite a bit of torque and held it really well. 2,800rpms might be a little on the low side to cut the test off, and pushing higher RPMs, we expect to see the power held even longer.

When we overlay the 369SXE results with other turbo test results, the SXE362 and the SXE364, you can see the difference between these turbos. Spool up is much farther behind for the 369, as expected, with the difference in size on these turbos, but when you’re driving, that difference is huge. The SXE364 and SXE362 kill the 369.

When comparing averages across the three turbos, you can see some consistent results from our previous comparisons. The bigger we go, the worse the averages get.

When we compare max power across the three turbos, the SXE369 definitely wins, picking up about 50hp and 60lbs of torque.
