The Daily Driver Tow 650 hp is loaded with billet parts and increased clutch counts that are all essential upgrades to reliably hold 650 hp. Many competitor transmissions use similar billet hard part upgrades; what sets Power Driven Diesel apart is our unique lubrication, main case, and component modifications.
First, we modify the transmission main case to provide additional lubrication to the low/reverse sprag and install anchors to the sprag race to prevent race failure during heavy loading in first gear. Case deflection is another common problem that occurs under heavy towing with 1000+ ft/lbs torque. This deflection makes the intermediate shaft drag, gall, and start a chain reaction that ultimately causes low/reverse drum galling and failure. To address intermediate shaft and low/reverse drum galling, we’ve increased lubrication to the center support at the intermediate shaft and low/reverse drum. We also perform input shaft and main case lubrication mods that dramatically improve third and fourth/overdrive clutch pack life by providing full-time cooling/lubrication to these clutch packs. Finally, we’ve rollerized and welded the planetaries and ring gears. The factory brass thrust washers between the planetary assemblies wear exceptionally fast when loaded with nearly triple the factory torque rating, sending metal into the sump and plugging the filter. Rapid filter changes can stave off filter plugging from rapid thrust washer wear, but we’ve seen factory thrust washer failure in just 15,000 miles on heavily loaded towing trucks. No modern transmission relies on thrust washers and neither should you! The welded ring gears provide an additional level of reliability that isn’t required at this power level but comes standard in our CNC-rollerized planetary assembly.
