How We Solved the Problem with Diesel Air Filters

Power driven diesel has launched a new line of air filters to solve the three biggest problems we see with typical aftermarket filters. However, we didn’t just want to solve these problems, we wanted to do it in a way that utilized the latest technology and improved performance over any other filter.

The three biggest issues we saw were:

1. Filters take too long to clean – Oiled cotton-gauze filters have to be washed, dried, and washed again to get clean. This means your truck is off the road for the better part of a day.

2. Cotton-gauze filters are unsightly – Standard filters are easily damaged and wrinkled. You often see pristine engines with an ugly, wrinkled, dirty filter in them because there is no protection for the filter.

3. There us too much responsibility placed on the end-user – Standard filters leave it to the end user to make sure they’re cleaned regularly and that the right amount of oil is used for the filter to perform optimally. If it is not done perfectly then performance and efficiency suffer.

We solved these issues with what we feel are the best filters available:

1. Synthetic media requires no oil – Because Power Driven filters use oil-free synthetic media, you can clean the filter in about 5 minutes with an air compressor.

2. Metal cage to protect filter – The metal cage prevents the filters and pleats from twisting and wrinkling, keeping your engine bay looking clean and pristine. Plus, it looks cool.

3. Easy to maintain performance – If you keep it clean with a compressor, your filter will continue to provide top-line performance for your diesel engine.

We have developed two different lines of filters for different diesel truck uses. The Performer Air Filter has similar efficiency to other performance filters but if flows around 40% more air. It is the best performing filter for street driven and competition trucks.

The Dust Bowl filter has higher a much higher efficiency and was designed for trucks around a lot of dirt, such as people living on dirt roads or on work sites. The Dust Bowl will stop more dirt than other filters, and will even stop smoke. The increased filter efficiency does have a little lower air flow as a result.

Air Filter Tests

In our tests, we ran the Performer air filter against an AFE filter and against no filter.

Performer filter run one produced 917 horsepower.

The no filter run produced 913 horsepower.

The AFE filter produced 902 horsepower.

The Performer filter 2nd run produced 910 horsepower.

The red line in the chart below shows how the Power Driven Diesel air filter performed during the first run against no filter (green line) and the AFE filter (blue line).

To eliminate any issues of heat soak, we also ran a second test of the Performer immediately after the AFE filter run, and produced 910 horsepower, just under the filterless run, seen below.

These tests show how the technology we used to create these high performance air filters provide flow unmatched in the diesel industry. Be sure to visit our store to find a Power Driven Diesel air filter for your diesel truck.
