Sometimes, the standard offerings just don’t fit with the rest of your build. Power Driven Diesel offers custom 12v cylinder heads for customers who need something special.
All Power Driven Diesel Custom 12v Cummins Cylinder Heads feature a new aftermarket casting that is surfaced to OEM specifications in-house using state-of-the-art equipment to ensure reliable head gasket sealing. If the custom head is CNC ported, it will feature enlarged pushrod holes for better clearance and improved oil drainback and is machined for compatibility with our Doweled Batwing Rocker Pedestals. Valve and seat work is performed to optimize overall port flow, as well as ensure optimal valve sealing, and are then assembled by our expert technicians according to the valvetrain option selected.
Custom cylinder heads are made-to-order in between production runs of our standard stocked cylinder heads. The standard lead time for custom cylinder heads is 3-5 weeks.
CNC Porting Options:
• Stage 1 “Towing Performance”: The Power Driven Diesel Towing Performance Port is a mild CNC port job that enhances intake swirl and exhaust flow while maintaining full water jacket thickness to retain stock-like reliability in the casting. By enhancing both swirl and exhaust flow, these cylinder heads produce higher fuel economy and reduced EGT compared to stock cylinder heads. On our SuperFlow 1020 test bench, this port produced a 31% increase on the intake and a 28% increase on the exhaust. Testing also revealed a 22% swirl increase, with a corresponding maximum intake flow of 172 CFM and peak exhaust flow measuring 178 CFM at 28″. In real-world testing, the higher swirl and increased flow from this ported head slightly raised engine efficiency and peak power performance with resulting lower EGT readings compared to the stock cylinder head. Due to the higher port velocity and nearly stock port volume, these cylinder heads gain power/torque everywhere in the rpm range. These towing cylinder heads work excellently with mild or stock engines, especially applications with the stock camshaft or mild aftermarket upgraded cams. If you tow for a living or use your Cummins to haul, this is the most reliable and best cylinder head for your application.
• Stage 2 “Hot Street”: The Power Driven Diesel Hot Street Port is a moderate CNC port job that creates balanced flow across all 6 cylinders while providing large flow gains with OEM-sized valves. On our SuperFlow 1020 test bench, this port produced a 48% increase on the intake and a 46% increase on the exhaust. This port flows an incredible 195 CFM on the intake and 203 CFM on the exhaust at 28″. In real-world back-to-back dyno testing on an 800 hp street truck, the higher flow from this Hot Street port showed a 75 hp gain versus the baseline stock head. Although a bigger-than-stock camshaft is not required, this port really shines when combined with an aftermarket camshaft with larger-than-stock duration and lift. If your goal is a 1,000 hp street-driven Cummins, this is the head for you!
• Stage 3 “Race Port”: The Power Driven Diesel Race Port is the most extreme CNC port job that can be achieved with the factory intake shelf intact. Featuring oversized 1.87″ intake and 1.75″ exhaust valves, it outflows many of the competitor’s bolt-on shelf/runner intake heads while retaining the reliable factory shelf and water cooling. On our SuperFlow 1020 test bench, this port produced a 68% increase on the intake and a 65% increase on the exhaust. This port flows an incredible 234 CFM on the intake and 232 CFM on the exhaust at 28″. In real-world back-to-back dyno testing on a 1,500 hp race truck, the higher flow from this Race Port showed a 119 hp gain versus the baseline stock head. This head is designed for use with an aftermarket high-lift camshaft and is not intended for street use. While it is possible to run this head on the street, the thin port walls and heavy valve spring pressure are not ideal for longevity in a street application. If you’re looking for the ultimate water-cooled head for a dedicated 12v Cummins race engine, this is it!
