Why Do I Need a Fuel Pressure Gauge?
An electric fuel pressure gauge helps you maintain proper fuel pressure levels in your car or truck. By monitoring fuel pressure, you can make sure that the fuel pump and regulator are functioning properly and that you’re getting the correct amount of pressure on a wide-open throttle. Assuring the proper flow of fuel pressure to the injectors will also ensure that the injectors aren’t damaged. If the fuel pressure is off, it can cause injection pump failure and may even cause engine failure. A metric fuel pressure gauge that reads from 0 to 7.0 BAR is also available. If fuel pressure levels are off, the result can be misfiring, reduced performance, lower fuel economy, and more.
Symptoms of Low/High Fuel Pressure
Proper fuel pressure is vital for optimal engine operation and performance. Low fuel pressure can result in rough idling, poor performance, and decreased fuel economy. High fuel pressure, when more fuel is pushed through the injectors than is required, results in a rich air-to-fuel ratio. A rich air-to-fuel ratio causes black exhaust and high emissions, which can overheat and cause damage to your fuel system. If the fuel regulator is not returning the proper amount of fuel, the result may be higher than normal fuel pressure. Installing a truck or car fuel pressure gauge allows you to monitor low and high pressure to prevent any damage to your fuel system.
30 psi vs. 100 psi GlowShift Fuel Pressure Gauges
A 30 psi fuel pressure gauge is ideal for any diesel truck that is running lower fuel pressure levels. Cummins engines, for example, are an optimal fit for installing the 30 psi fuel pressure gauge. This gauge will alert you if the pressure level is too low, which could result in damage leading to an overall loss in horsepower. A PowerStroke diesel would be best suited with a 100 psi fuel pressure gauge. This gauge is made specifically for vehicles that run higher fuel pressure levels, such as racing applications or work applications like trucks that are covering long distances and towing heavy cargo. A 100 psi fuel pressure gauge is also the recommended version for vehicles with a fuel-injected gas engine.
